Let music reflect country's aspirations - Boafo

Kumasi, July 28, GNA - Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, has charged Ghanaian musicians to let their music reflect the aspirations of the country.

He said the current profanity that had bedeviled the music industry was at variance with the Ghanaian culture and did not augur well for socio-economic prosperity.

Mr Boafo was inaugurating the Ashanti Regional branch of the Gospel Musicians Ministry (GMM) in Kumasi on Sunday. The Ministry aims at unearthing talents in gospel music for the propagation of the work of God.

He said it was regrettable that some musicians were under the misconception that without profanity in their songs, they would lose patronage.

Contrary to this, a very good song without profanity stood a better chance of receiving very good patronage, he said.

The Regional Minister entreated musicians to refine their music as a means of shaping the moral training of the youth.

Mr Boafo also asked people not to patronise profane music in order to help stem the proliferation of that type of music.

He also advised members of the GMM against divisiveness and self-seeking tendencies. Rather, they should be able to unearth more talents in the gospel music industry.

Mr Godfried Osei, Executive Secretary of the Ministry, said it had a membership of about 240.
