Leila Djansi’s “Like Cotton Twines” premiers in LA

Guess who’s putting Ghana on the map in the film making business? Our very own Leila Djansi.

Yes, Leila Djansi’s movie “Like Cotton Twines” has been premiered successfully at the Los Angeles Film Festival which was held recently. Her movie which was shot in Ho, Keita and Saviefa, all in the Volta Region of Ghana happens to be the first Ghanaian movie to be premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival.

Interestingly, the festival is organized by Film Independent who also organize the Spirit Awards. Like Cotton Twines played competition in the World Cinema category and that means the film is nominated for the Best World Fiction Film.

Speaking to Ghbase.com, Leila Djansi disclosed that, the movie is likelu to be premiered in Ghana in December. An excited Leila told us that, her movie will also be premiering at 4 other film festivals around the world.

Like Cotton Twines stars actress Yvonne Okoro, star of BET’s The Game Jay Ellis, David Dontoh, Luckie Lawson, Adjetey Anang, Ophelia Dzidzornu and Hollywood executive, actress/producer Miranda Bailey who produced last years award winning film Diary of a Teenage Girl.

‘Like Cotton Twines’ tells the story of Micah Brown, an American volunteer who takes a teaching job in aremote African village where he meets Tuigi, a 13-year old girl who is to become Trokosi, wife to the gods. A practice of religious sexual slavery. Accepting of her fate, Tuigi’s only desire it to be able to write her BECE. Locked in a battle between church and state, Micah is determined to give Tuigi a life outside tradition.
