Legon Pentecostals Union (LPU), one of University of Ghana’s foremost student-led churches, has celebrated its 40th anniversary on Legon campus.

The anniversary celebration included a procession through the campus, relationship talk shows, an outdoor music concert and a climax of a powerful, spirit-filled thanksgiving service. The weeklong celebration gathered alumni from the late 70s till 2015.

Speaking at the thanksgiving service, Apostle Joseph Assabil, Achimota Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, recounted his days on campus in LPU and how the church has grown from grace to grace till today.

Touching on the theme “Ebenezer- Thus how far the Lord has brought us”, he enlightened the gathering on how one needed to be thankful for how far they had come.

Clad in their anniversary cloth and chanting the union’s mantra ”A generation of power!”, the whole auditorium was charged with God’s presence with some alumni sharing nostalgic memories of their experience on campus back in the 80s and 90s. Led by Pastor Alex Sackey-Ansah (LPU President 91/92), funds were raised to buy a new bus for the union.

LPU, since 1976, has been the spiritual training grounds of most University of Ghana students. Most of its alumni are at the helm of affairs in and out of Ghana.

The curtains were drawn on the thanksgiving service with LPU’s invigorating anthem being sung by all and sundry in oneness.
