Kwame Gee and LilWin clash online

A trailer for Kwadwo Nkansah LilWin’s upcoming movie 'Church Members' has sparked an online feud between him and Kwame Gee, after the latter publicly criticised LilWin’s comic performance in the film.

The brouhaha began after LilWin released the trailer, which captures him playing the role of a pastor. The storyline also captures a woman soliciting funds from the church to pay medical bills for her sick daughter.

Kwame Gee, in a post on his TikTok handle, praised the concept of the movie and the issues being tackled.

However, he criticised LilWin’s acting in the movie, stating that he did not have to resort to his usual comedy antics in the movie.

“The storyline the movie follows has no need for comedy in it. You do not need to do any fooling in it. This is a powerful story. It is not every movie that you have to bring your usual comedy inside. We know you are a comic actor, but this particular movie... It is not needed,” he noted.

LilWin, however, did not take kindly to the advice, accusing Kwame Gee of attempting to sabotage his work while posing as a constructive critic.

He further alleged that Kwame Gee had no right to criticise any movie since he had directed a series of ‘bad’ movies himself.

The clash climaxed in a video conference between the two. LilWin defended his movie, noting that it was a creative direction and that he was being unfairly targeted.

“Why me? Why are you targetting me? I am not the director of the movie. I fixed the comedy in the movie to get people to laugh a bit. You didn’t have to come out and attempt to tarnish my name and image and put me up for drags. You could have sent your concerns privately to me,” he said.

Kwame Gee, in his defence, insisted that he was offering constructive criticism and that not every movie needed comedic relief.

“I have no issue with you. I was not targeting you. I was rather trying to make a point and had to use your movie as a reference,” he defended.

While the feud rages on, fans and social media users have taken sides. Some have agreed with Kwame Gee, while others have defended LilWin.

Meanwhile, others have raised broader questions about whether public criticism between industry peers ultimately helps or harms the local movie industry.
