It was all fun and excitement for his fans in six cities across the United States, as he took them on an endless stream of unforgettable performances, energy and a transposition into the twilight of memory lane.

From the city of New York, through Maryland, Worcester, Atlanta, Chicago and North Carolina, Kojo Antwi took hold of his microphone to enthrall his fans with live performances which in the words of one Chicago-based Ghanaian writer brought “back assorted memories”.

Backed by his exceptional band, Kojo Antwi’s live performances at all six venues in the United States left his fans asking for more. Indeed, it was hard resisting the angelic voice of SHE, his background singer, the magic of Kwame Yeboah behind the keyboard as well as the talent displays of his base guitarist and percussionist.

Rhythm after rhythm, Kojo gave his audience the taste of timeless tunes from his repertoire of over 25 years of classical Afropop music. In each city, Kojo gave off his best and left his audience with the creative ambience with which he sung. His songs, though mainly fused with the theme of love, meant different things to different people. “When the band launched the anthem ‘Dadie Anoma’, a song which most

fans believe is Kojo’s all-time best, the frenzied crowd, singing along
word for word lost control. Just listening to the lyrics alone put a
feeling of nostalgia in the hall. We are all travelers in foreign lands and
the idea of the song talking about how our loved ones back home constantly
remind us of our obligations to them and of course not to forget about
their stipends”, writes Berko Akoto on Kojo’s performance in Chicago.

Explaining the rationale behind the tour to The New Crusading GUIDE, Kojo simply said “you go wherever the music calls”. Having been nominated for the 2010 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards in the United States, Kojo seized the opportunity to heed to the calls of his music lovers who have for a long time missed his live performances. It was such a delight. Everywhere he performed, the audiences were in their numbers, miming and singing along to the Maestro’s tunes yesteryears as well as his contemporary hits.

Kojo also used the occasion to perform in this year’s Anansekrom, the Premier African Cultural Extravaganza focused on the Ghanaian and African Culture in the UK. Being a show that is open to all races and ages aimed at opening out a Midas to true African Culture, Kojo was at his usual best, taking his art to meteoric heights.

You cannot fault Kojo Antwi for his talent, one that has held rein over Afro Popular Music (Afropop) for over 25 years. He sees his performance as a duty and he heeds to the call of music with excellence. Like any consistent artiste, Kojo makes prophets out of those who predict his sterling performance at any show. That’s why Rahim Sinare, who promised a great show at the beginning of the tour, called to tell this paper at the end of it all, “I told you it was going to be a full blast and it did!”.
For his fans in the United States, the moments shared with Kojo on his tour would forever be embedded in annals of live Afropop musical shows. It would remain an unforgettable treat, but as Kojo revealed to The New Crusading GUIDE,he has plans for his Ghanaian fans that missed his US performances. “I want to tell my fans in Ghana to hold up for my show in December.
