KNUST to host international conference on Art Education

Kumasi July 23, GNA- The Department of Art Education at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) would next week host a two-week international conference of Art Education. The event, which is being organised in collaboration with the African Community of Arts Educators (AfriCOAE) in the US, would attract participation from Hungary, USA, UK, Uganda, Nigeria and Cameroon. The programme, which will be on the theme: "The Kumasi Symposium: Tapping Local Resources for Sustainable Education through Art" is scheduled to take place on July 31 to August 14. It is a follow-up to "Project Earth to Art" workshop that took place in Accra in 2008. Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Wednesday in Kumasi, Nana Afia Amponsaa Opoku-Asare, Head of Department said the issues to be discussed include Art education, Studio Practice, Arts Administration/Management/Marketing Practice, environmental issues in artistic practice and best practices and programmes.

She indicated that the programme would entail plenary sessions and support activities such as demonstration/ practical workshops, exhibitions, and site-specific tours of local/national resources, panel presentations and end with a banquet that would offer the participants the opportunity to wear their national attire. The Head of Department said the banquet would also showcase made-in-Ghana traditional wear.
