Jealousy leads woman to jail

A Tema Community Tribunal, chaired by Captain Philip Agbeyome (RTD), on Tuesday sentenced a 32-year old woman who attacked and injured a rival to nine months imprisonment with hard labour.

Kaakie Ocansey, a trader at Ashaiman, pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawfully and intentionally causing harm to Ms Beauty Dzade, a housewife aged 24.

Chief Inspector Sarah Aggrey Acquah, prosecuting, told the Tribunal that on November 11, Beauty was sleeping in her room in her house when Kaakie, who is a friend to the complainant's (Beauty's) husband knocked on her door.

The prosecution said Beauty woke up, opened her door, and Kaakie on seeing her, accused her of tearing a shirt valued at 160,000 cedis she bought for Beauty's husband.

The accused then beat the complainant mercilessly until she sustained serious injuries and bruises in the face, her left eye and a deep cut at the back of her head.
