It’s refreshing to see how we’re celebrating “Obrafour” and his classic “Pae Mu Ka (Say It As It Is) [1999]” album and title track.

Joining the day of Celebration on the 3fmDrive with Giovani Caleb, The Chief Executive Officer Of Toomtoom Studios Dj Black in a phone interview stated it was illegal to play Obrafour’s Songs on Commercial radio at the time.

Having served radio listeners for close to 20 years, Dj Black was one of the few DJs who contributed to the success of the ” PaeMuKa” Album.

In his submission, he noted that the album was a whole new thing for us and the people.

“At the time it was all Reggie Rockstone and One indigenous rapper banging the airwaves, And then Obrafour Came in with a whole new hip life and hip hop album, the game changer” He explained.

The renowned disc jockey went on to touch on the fact that hiplife and hip-hop weren’t accepted back then, making it very difficult to play Obrafour’s songs on commercial radio.

“The love for High Life and Gospel music was mainly the favourites of radio listeners ” He added

Touching on the need for knowing the history behind the genre of music one ventures into, he went on to say for him and other DJs who have held the fort, they have been proud of Obrafour’s work and the duty now lies on the shoulders of rappers to be proud of Obrafour.
