Interview: TDK speaks

The newest Afro pop group-TDK from Ghana is out with a new hit called ‘Danwana’, soon after the coming of ‘Chocolate Me’. The group has kicked off in a bright mood and the acceptance from fans alike is beautiful.

‘Danwana’ is already taking the airwaves by storm, and music pundits are rating it high.

We caught up with DKay (whose real name is Clifford Amankwah) and Tymer (whose real name is Paul Amankwah), to share with us what their new song is all about, among other things.

What is the meaning of ‘Danwana’?

"Danwana" simply means "my paddie" or friend or maybe let's say my brother.

Why the title ‘Danwana’?

You know as an artiste before you can make people like your music you should communicate with them via the song. So we chose “Danwana” because the title communicates with the public.

When will you drop the next single?

We can't give a specific date but very soon.

Your previous single ‘chocolate me’ has this Nigerian touch, what’s the secret?

People think Nigerians are the only ones always dropping Afro pop kind of music. So anytime people hears "Chocolate Me" they go like are the artistes from Nigeria, well no we are from Ghana and Afro pop is our thing so you should expect more.

When are we going to see a new video to ‘Danwana’?

Very soon.

How did you come together as a group?

We have been a group since birth because we are cousins and we have been always doing things together from day one. But we became a music group when we both realised we have one thing in common that is we both love music.

Why Afro pop music?

Afro pop music talks about African culture. If is not the beat then is the words on the beat. And we like keeping it African so that's why. And Afro pop is not the only genre we are into. We do hip hop as well and sometimes soul music.

It’s been a while you joined the music industry what do you think of the Ghanaian music industry?

The industry got a lot of surprises in it, you will never know what is going on and what is coming but whatever goes or whatever stays in it deserves it because that is making the Ghanaian music industry a better one but all what I will say is there should be a lot of creativity in everything they do.

Currently everyone is on the Azonto trend what should we expect something new or the usual Azonto from you?

Well we can't tell the people to dance or not to dance Azonto to our song but the kind of music we do is always going to be out of the ordinary.

What aspect of music making excites you the most right now?

Well all kinds of music excite us.

Which artist or music group inspires you as a group?

The inspiration comes from every good music we listen.

As you create more music do you find yourself getting more or less interested in seeking out and listening to new music made by other people?

Yeah we used to enjoy other songs by other musicians a lot but now our time is limited because we have our own songs to write but any small time we get we listen to different kinds of music as well.

Your song ‘Chocolate Me’ made great waves in Berlin what went into this?

We won't say it came as a surprise because ‘Chocolate Me’ is a song that has everything in it, I mean even if you can't understand the words in it you can still dance to the beat.

Which artist do you hope to feature someday?

Well featuring is something we are not thinking of right now but in case we decide anything you will surely know.

Thank you for your time any last words?

Thank you too and we are just going to say thanks to everybody who is supporting TDK and you can follow us on twitter, Instagram and like our Facebook fan page respectively @officialTDK.
