I stopped craving for awards due to past failures – Celestine Donkor

Ghanaian Gospel singer, Celestine Donkor has revealed that she completely lost hope of winning an award due to her past failures.

She says her inability to win several awards ever since she came into the limelight as a musician completely shattered her dreams of winning one someday even though she kept releasing hit songs.

In an interview with MzGee on 3FM’s Showbuzz, Celestine indicated that picking up four awards at the National Gospel Music Awards came as a huge surprise to her.

“Sincerely, I have not really had a big eye for awards because many times in the past, it comes up and I go home empty handed so I was not really into it. So this came as a really big surprise for me.” She stated.

However, the gospel musician admitted that her hit song, “Agbebolo” has opened doors for her.

“I’ve been to Kenya, Nigeria, U.S, Canada and many other countries not to mention the mega show I had at Togo early this year which attracted over 30,000 patrons and that really amazed me.

“These awards have come to empower me and also make me realize how people follow me both locally and international…at least people now recognize the impact I’m having on society through my songs,” She added.

The amiable artiste who was crowned as the Ghanaian Gospel Artist of year last Saturday in Kumasi bagged four awards including Song of the Year. Album of the Year and Collaboration of the Year.
