I married him in jail - Coco Blasian opens up on difficult past relationship

Japanese-Ghanaian musician Coco Blasian has revealed that she once married her former partner while he was in jail, describing the relationship as “really difficult” during an interview on Hitz FM.

Speaking with host Doreen Avio, Coco Blasian recounted how her then-boyfriend mysteriously went missing while they were dating in Japan, leaving her worried and searching for answers.

According to her, after days of unanswered messages and confusion fueled by inquiries from the man’s friends, she eventually discovered that he had been arrested.

“I was so worried for like a week… I found out he was in jail,” she said, adding that at the time, she did not fully understand the circumstances surrounding his arrest.

Despite the uncertainty, she said her emotions and trust in him led her to make a life-altering decision.

“I was young, so I believed him and tried to help him… I loved him, so I married him in jail,” she disclosed.

Coco Blasian also admitted that she kept the marriage a secret from her parents, suggesting the decision was made independently and under emotional pressure.

The marriage, however, did not last, as she confirmed she is now divorced.

While reflecting on her past, the musician struck a lighter tone when the conversation shifted to her love life and future relationships. She openly expressed her attraction to African men and her interest in finding a Ghanaian partner.

When asked if she was currently in a relationship, she responded playfully, “No, can you introduce me to them?” and affirmed her preference when pressed further.

“Yes, I do,” she said, laughing, after the host noted her apparent interest in African men.

Beyond her personal life, Coco Blasian—whose father is Ghanaian from Aburi and mother is Japanese—also shared her artistic aspirations, revealing plans to create music centred on love, world peace, and health, topics she says she is passionate about exploring through her work.

She has released a song about breast cancer awareness.
