While birthdays are typically celebratory, this was not the case for Ghanaian actor James Gardiner, who revealed that he has been battling depression for years.

The actor, who marked his birthday on May 16, 2024, shared that he felt overwhelmed and helpless.

In a post on his Instagram handle, James Gardiner recounted the challenges he faced after launching several businesses that unfortunately failed due to unexpected events.

He started a car rental service in 2018, which initially thrived but suffered a significant downturn during the COVID pandemic.

He later invested in a nightclub, which did not turn out as he had hoped, leaving him in a state of despair.

"My heart is heavy! It's my birthday, but I don't know what I'm celebrating! I've cried my eyes out this morning. I'm just a young man trying to be successful in this life!

"In 2018, I managed to start a car rental company. Things were good until Covid hit. Then business dipped for like 2 years. Sold the cars and decided to invest in a nightclub in Ghana, hoping to strike gold once again. But things didn't work out as it should, or maybe not just yet! Friends and family didn't support much. The ones who did, did! Yes, I'm working and doing what I love—acting! But I'm just not happy! I feel empty, to be honest. Like, is all of this worth it?" he posted

James Gardiner stated that on the day which should have been one of celebration, it rather turned out to be one of tears, as he sat alone in his room, uncertain of his next steps.

He reached out to his followers, asking for their prayers and support as he navigated through this difficult period.

"Thank you for hearing me out, lol... Just say a prayer for me! I'm gonna keep my head high and continue to figure it out! I know I'm stubborn and imperfect! But together we are here," he shared.

James Gardiner's plea comes at a time when emphasis has been placed on the mental health of Ghanaian celebrities who have been vocal about the issues they go through while dealing with fame and societal pressures.
