Actor John Dumelo has expressed joy with parliament's decision to shelve the idea of constructing a new 450-seat chamber.
Ghanaians especially on Social media – Facebook and Twitter – strongly kicked against parliament and its leadership in connection with the new proposed chamber.
Some lawmakers, especially from the Minority side, like the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; Ras Mubarak, MP for Kumbungu; and Tamale North MP Alhassan Suhuyini, described the move as needless.
Also, some lawmakers from the Majority side, including Samuel Ayeh-Paye, Ayensuano; and Mr Patrick Boamah, Okaikwei Central, also said a new chamber is not necessary.
After series of consultations Parliament in a statement released on Monday, 8 July 2019 said: “The board, has, upon reviewing presentations made to it by well-meaning Ghanaians, accordingly taken the development out of its present agenda.”
Reacting to Parliament's U-turn on the matter, Mr Dumelo tweeted: “I’m glad parliament has finally decided to drop the chamber. Well done to the millions of voices out there who fought for this. Together let us make Ghana a better place.”
