I'm embracing my scars - Jeremie

Alicia Keys may have influenced Ghanaian radio presenter Jeremie Van-Garshong, with her No Make-up Movement.

With her new hashtag campaign #NoMakeup, musician Alicia Keys has proudly stopped smearing on foundation and wiping on mascara — but not everyone is impressed.

“To fit in or be thought of as beautiful, you have to cover up to be a bit closer to perfect,” she (Alicia Keys) wrote in an essay for Lenny Letter, which sparked her decision.

“Every time I left the house, I would be worried if I didn’t put on makeup: What if someone wanted a picture?” she wrote. “What if they POSTED it??? These were the insecure, superficial, but honest thoughts I was thinking. And all of it, one way or another, was based too much on what other people thought of me.“ In order to regain her confidence, Keys stopped wearing makeup entirely — including during photoshoots and performances.

Now Jeremie has also shared the photo above without make-up today, and wrote;

“No make up today! I’m embracing my scars! I don’t wake up looking the way you see me on Tv or radio! We get made up for hours to look fly! But I’ve come to realise that I misunderstood FLY somewhere down the line. So I created my own jeremie definition. It’s not about who you pretend to be? FLY means FULLY LOVING YOURSELF. With or without make up. I’m learning to embrace the real me and be bold about it. I’m not supposed to be perfect. I am made perfect in Christ.#becoming jeremie #inspiration #justbeingreal #fromjeremiewithlove#dontmindthepuffyeyes???? Watch out for inspiration on Scars tomorrow..????”
