Highlife musician Ofori Amponsah has disclosed his intention to contest for the Member of Parliament seat for Asante Akim constituency in 2020.
According to him, his reason to join the political race is to contribute his thoughts and supports to the progress of his constituency and Ghana at large.
As a guest on Akwaaba Talk show hosted by Candyman on Atinka FM, Amponsah also known by the name Mr. All 4 Real, said his love for politics has grown stronger after certain pertinent issues in the country are not given critical attention.
Asked which political party’s ticket he’ll contest come 2020, Ofori Amponsah was swift to add that he will choose between the two biggest political parties in Ghana, NPP and NDC when the time is due.
“I’m a politician, I love politics, I know whatever is happening in politics and I follow a lot of things so now Ofori Amponsah the politician has just shown up. I’ll contest for Member of Parliament in my constituency… I don’t like MUSIGA, I’m heading to parliament direct in 2020. I’m serious about this parliamentary ambition because politics is something we can all contribute our quota to help change the dynamics in our country and constituency.
“I believe one day it’s a possibility because the way I perceive things happening in this country, makes me sad sometimes so if I’ve what it takes to help change situations why not… I’ve a lot of ideas. I can state emphatically that leadership is commonsense and not rocket-science or about your educational qualifications. Someone who hasn’t gotten to this status can even do better than the one with high pedigree. I’ll not go independent as candidate, I’ll choose either NDC or NPP… I’ve already decided on which party’s ticket I’ll run in 2020 but I’m hiding it for now.” Ofori Amponsah told Candyman on Akwaaba Talk on Atinka FM.
Asante-Akim is divided into three constituencies, North, Central and South. The Asante-Akim North is represented by Honourable ANDY KWAME APPIAH-KUBI, Hon. KWAME ANYIMADU ANTWI represents Asante-Akim Central and the Member of Parliament for Asante-Akim South is Hon. KWAKU ASANTE-BOATENG. All three constituencies are stronghold of the New Patriotic Party.
The award-winning musician, who was introduced to commercial music in the early 2000s by ace musician Daddy Lumba, was popular for hit tracks like ‘Lady’, ‘Emmanuella’, and ‘Otoolege’.
After years of producing hits tracks, Ofori Amponsah took a break from secular music. He set up a church and became a preacher of the gospel.
He, however, made his first U-turn when he released ‘Alewa’ with rapper Sarkodie. Earlier this year, he released ‘17’ which featured Kwabena Kwabena.
