Multiple award-winning Ghanaian rapper, Michael Owusu Addo, best known in showbiz as Sarkodie, has revealed that it is a great feeling to the first Ghanaian be nominated in 2019 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Hip Hop Award.

Sarkodie said Ghanaians need to celebrate the nominations because it is historic and the first time BET has introduced such category. Being the first Ghanaian artiste to be part he says, is a prodigious sentiment.

According to the CEO of Sarkcess Music, even though people have issues with the fact that he mostly raps in the local language, it is wrong, the perception that rapping in English is somewhat superior or that foreign artistes are better when it comes to stage flow.

He said “I keep explaining it is a cheat for me to try and battle in English because they were born into it even though he has the technique to beat them when it comes to stage flow. People always say the best rappers are in America, Grammy will say they are the best musicians, Miss World will say she is the most beautiful lady because of those who contested with her, which is not necessarily true. I always believe that in "act" there are always levels to it because there are certain people that when I see them I know they are good but technically I am better”.

Speaking at the 2019 launch of the annual Rapperholic concert, the “Adonai” hitmaker said, he has made up his mind to only concentrate on pleasing Ghanaians and his fans with his lyrics but his flow and delivery has to attract international masses, (World).

“When I saw the nomination, I said this is something that proves my flow are hard. When I look at the whole category I feel like the thought of “flow” was encouraged because of Sarkodie, even if they don’t crown me a winner”, he added.

Sarkodie has been nominated in the newly created Best International Flow category alongside six other acts, Falz (Nigeria), Ghetts (U.K), Kalash (France), Lil Simz (U.K), Nasty C (South Africa) and Tory Lanez (Canada).

Sarkodie has won the Best International Act (Africa) in 2012 BETs award.

This is however not the rapper’s first nomination from the BET as he has had nominations in 2012, 2014 and 2015.

Out of these three, he won the Best International Act: Africa alongside WizKid in 2012.

Meanwhile, Grammy Award-winning, Multi-Platinum artist, Cardi B leads this year’s nominations with an impressive 10 nods.

DJ Khaled, Travis Scott, and J.Cole, also follow closely with 8 nominations each.

Sarkcess Music and Team A have officially launched the Rapperholic concert. Rapperholic is Sarkodie’s yearly concert, it always happens a few days before the New Year.
