CEO of Rite Multimedia and Host of TV3’s ‘Fast Break’, Yaw Sakyi Afari has revealed that life became unbearable after the death of his father, but he didn’t give up on his dreams.

In an interview with Real Eugene on The Big Exclusive Show on Radio Univers, Yaw Sakyi said he was with his father on the day his uncle shot dead his father.

‘I was seated with him outside on a certain bridge when his cousin came with a gun and a cutlass and said he was going hunting. I told my father I was hungry and he asked me to go home. Climbing the hill, I heard a gunshot. My dad was lying there bleeding’.

According to the former host of ‘Run Down’ on TV Africa, his uncle had apparently shot his father in an attempt to occupy a chieftaincy stool that was intended for his dad.

He recounted how the sight of seeing his father lying helplessly in a pool of his own blood dawned on him as a child as life became quite hard to cope with.

Yaw narrated how his mother had to resign from the Ghana Highways Authority as a civil servant in order to take up odd jobs that will bring extra income.

‘She started selling clothes, at a point, and it wasn’t going well so she had to stop….She started baking…you’ll see me Yaw behind a table selling bread…. Growing up, I was conscious of what my mum was going through and I needed to be obedient and supportive’.

Though he admitted that these unfortunate events had adverse effects on him while growing up, it didn’t kill his desire to succeed and make an impact in society.

Yaw Sakyi openly expressed his gratitude to his mom for being a great pillar in his life.

He also encouraged the youth to continue working hard in pursuit of their dreams. ‘Hard work does not kill,’ Yaw Sakyi noted.
