Psalm Adjetefio also known as T.T for his role in one of Ghana’s hilarious television series ‘taxi driver’ has revealed that he should have been a Reverend Father 30 years ago. Psalm Adjetefio who has been in the movie industry years back in an interview confessed he had wanted to be a Reverend Father but had difficulties in comprehending some of the doctrines and so he had to give up.
He became a household name when he featured in the series ‘taxi driver’ alongside Mikki Osei Berko (Master Richard), George Quaye (Aboagye) and others. Recounting how he got into acting, he remembered when he was invited by Emmanuel Appea to star in a movie after a recommendation by a very good friend who saw his ability to interpret characters very well and that landed him a major role in that movie.
However, when he was asked how much he wants to be paid, he said 500.000 Cedis (old currency). According to him, that money could change one’s life at the time but was refused that amount. Emmanuel Appea the producer offered to pay him 300.000 instead of the proposed 500.000 because he said he was not known even though he had featured in a couple movies at the time. He accepted and shot the movie but later in the evening after the wrap up of the movie, Emmanuel who was satisfied by the level of performance Psalm put up drove to his house and congratulated him on a job and also apologized for the fact that he was cheated considering his performance.
On a lighter note, he said the producer assured him of bigger payments in their subsequent projects which never came to pass. After this Psalm was offered another job by Emmanuel and that was when he was invited to shoot ‘taxi driver’. Speaking on the movie industry, he was bitter on how some old names in the industry have been neglected by producers. He described the situation as very unfortunate. He also spoke passionately on the caliber of movies we are producing out these days. He believes morality should be our priority because whatever we leave for the younger generation would be the object of discussion and posterity will judge of all us if we don’t do things well.
Psalm has featured in countless number of movies which include, Who killed Nancy, Shadows from the Past, Stab in the dark, Tears of Womanhood among several others. His recent movie is ‘Adult Only’ which he was invited by the producer Socrate Safo after years of neglect by producers in using him in their movies.
Even though he complained haven’t been paid so much for featuring in movies, he believes he is happy when people see him and recognize him as one who can put smiles on their face through acting.
‘If a person is under stress or pain and he sees me and laughs, I think by putting smiles on the person’s face itself is medically good and I am happy when things like that happens’.
Psalm believes he still has the ability to act and hopes that his latest movie ‘Adult Only’ will pave way for other producers to call on him for roles in their movies.
