Hundreds Defy Rains To Watch “Who Owns Da City”

The downpour on Friday night could not stop a number of movie fans and stakeholders who were bent on seeing HM Films’ ‘Who Owns Da City’, which was premiered at the Silverbird Cinema on Friday. Movie enthusiasts patronized the premiere in their numbers as the movie’s second showing had the theatre filled beyond capacity.

Every seat at the auditorium was occupied to the extent that some media personnel and industry stakeholders had no choice but to make use of the available space on the floor to see the movie which had some visual effects.

Present at the ceremony were actors Prince David Osei, Gloria Safo, Ziggy Netson, JOT Agyemang, Samuel Ruffy, Director Pascal Amanfo and a number of others. Among the cast of the movie were Ekow Smith Asante, Omar De 1st, Diana Gbetey, new face Charles Bruce Tagoe and others.

News-one did not spot Nadia Buari, David Dontoh and Kofi Adjorlolo, who played major roles and had made news for the movie a head of the premiere. It is not clear if Nadia has returned from the USA where reports indicated she was attending the Pan African Film Festival. Movie fans watched the movie with some enthusiasm, as they kept screaming at the action scenes, wondering how those scenes were captured. Friday’s premiere would be followed by others in the nine other regions in Ghana.

Directed by top Nigerian director Ifeanyi Onyeabor, the movie is about a group of drug barons who infiltrate the security agency by getting the boss (David Dontoh) involved in the trade.

Meanwhile, his subordinates are also on the verge of arresting the barons and clamping down on all drug-peddling activities. Undoubtedly, the movie appears to be re-echoing the issue of drug trade in Ghana. David’s role in the movie suggests that the movie will indeed be a good one. His long awaited return is expected to motivate the younger ones in the industry to up their game.
