How Shatta Wale landed at 'S' concert

It was a moment of hot dozes of all genres of rich Ghanaian music as local artists from Ghana's music arena showed up at the Accra Sports Stadium to entertain thousands of music lovers at the S Concert.

The annual concert never got completed without the appearance of dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale.

Cruising in a black Range rover with a 2017 customized number plate, Shatta stole the show by flexing how much a "reigning dancehall king" he is.

The "S concert" saw over 50 mainstream and upcoming musicians have signed up to perform at this year’s S Concert, Ghana’s biggest music concert in recent years.

Featuring some of the country’s most adored brands in music, as well as an exciting assembly of rising talents, the concert will see all on one stage all night.

Charles Nii Armah Mensa Jnr, known on stage as Shatta Wale, is one of Ghana's most popular Dance Hall artists.

The 33-year-old musician shot up to fame in 2004 with his hit single "Bandana from Ghana" which made tremendous hits on the Ghanaian airwaves.

Charles changed his stage name from "Bandana" to "Shatta Wale" after years of inactivity as a musician. His comeback to the music industry saw him release a track "Dancehall King" in 2013, which caught the attention of thousands of music fans.

Shatta's first big break was in 2013 when he sparked some controversy against organizers of the Ghana Music Awards.



According to Shatta, organizers of the 2013 Vodafone Music Awards (VGMA) denied him an award by giving the Dancehall Artiste title to Kaakie. It is to this end that Shatta came up with his new hit song in 2013 called "Dancehall King".



Fast-tracking to recent times, Shatta Wale got his reputation as King of Dancehall music secured after the president of the republic, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo named him "King of Dancehall music" in a birthday message

The Dancehall guru’s influence with his large fan base makes him one of Ghana’s highly favoured celebrities.



In 2017, Shatta Wale won several international awards including the African Entertainment Awards (USA) where he picked the Best Dancehall Artiste award.
