How Empire Entertainment made Takoradi standstill on Val Day

For the first time in the history of the people of Takoradi, this month of love and affection came in handy altering every doubt that only the capital city, Accra had the best of events organized, as Takoradi experienced one of its kind of event, put together by Empire FM themed: Weekend of Love, Music & Comedy.

The mood came in two folds: it started on the 14th of February, which saw the Vals Day party @ Champs Sport Bar graced by the crème de la crème of the entertainment industry.

Fast forward to the main event on the 15th of February, 2014; it was time to rock the dancing floor, and this time, the venue was the Vienna Beach. The event started at exactly 7pm with everyone ready for their dose of entertainment.

Stay J, an Afro hop artiste kicked the night started with tunes that opened the night and sent a note to all that came that there was more fully loaded in the bag. After an excellent performance on that night, Stay J, left an impression on all that he’s worth watching out for in 2014, even now that he has floated his own music label called ASBmusic.

When it was time for one of the country’s sexiest voices, Raquel, to perform, it was blissful. She did tunes after tunes. Though her beginning was on the low, but when she finally got her groove on, stopping her wasn’t an option.

We have seen Kwaw Kese performe on all stages in Ghana, but one that will live in the hearts of many that came was that of Takoradi over the weekend. He was on top of his game; he gave both the organizers and the attendants the worth of their money with his ‘no dulling’ tunes. He truly understood what to make the crowd cheer on per billing second.

If there is any reason to appreciate dancehall music, then Kaakie is no doubt a factor. She showed that she was up to the task to entertain the thousands that came, and that she did professionally well; no doubt, she justified why she is still the ‘Queen of Dancehall in Ghana.’

Stonebwoy arguably is one of the finest dancehall kids on the bloc from Ghana. His composure, state of the art artistry on that night, brought another side of the people of Western region. They partied hard and sang along every tune that he rendered.

Then came the Tonga song crooner, Joey B. He didn’t perform lots of songs on the night but his hit single was just enough dose to power his fans who came to enjoy his well shaped stage craft.

Castro was another fantastic act on stage. His performance was one of the best we have seen in years past. Each song he performed was alongside choreographed. Castro has come of age, his style and songs have never withered. His combination with Kofi Kinaata at a point in his performance was a beauty to behold. It was a summation to the fact that the younger ones need support from those who have been there, and that was what the whole night was about.

On the comedy part, the comedian Hogan cracked all the ribs that made their way to the Vienna Beach. His content and style were just of another level. He has improved and this is a warning sign to all who will be attending any show he will be billed for in future, to fasten their diaphragm before attending.

The audience participation was massively beautiful; Takoradi fans came in their numbers and one thing we saw was that they keep to time compared to the Accra event attendees.

Empire Hospitality Team were warming and accommodating from start to finish. They showed vibrancy and professionalism as far as entertainment organizing is concerned, and that, trust me, was second to none.

As part of the whole night’s history in Takoradi, DJs Perfekt and Nana Kojo Adjei aka French Kiss from UK were on hand to keep everyone standing simply because there was no reason to be sitting when your feet was urging you to dance. Their random disc jockeying all night created a fantastic interactive affection between the musicians that performed, the audience that wanted more and the whole theme for the night.

The brief moment of KKD on the microphone, was just enough to serenade every Tom, Dick and Harry that appeared at the event.

Comotion Promotion, Naa and Kwesi (both presenters on Empire FM) held their own firm as they jointly carried everyone along on the stage.

In a nutshell, last weekend’s concept of thrilling the people of Takoradi on a lovely mood is a beautiful strategy of changing the status quo and belief that without Accra, nowhere can be fun to be.
