Hosting Ghana's Most Beautiful

News anchor, Gideon Aryeequaye is relishing his new role as the host of TV 3’s latest Sunday evening reality show, Ghana’s Most Beautiful. Landing this role has not exactly been a quantum leap. Gideon says emceeing various social events in the capital prepared him for a moment like this. has not exactly been a quantum leap.

He has been a face on TV3 that cannot be forgotten. He is currently relishing the role as MC for TV3’s Ghana Most Beautiful. He has had some practice over the years however. Emceeing for family and friends at various events social events. Maybe it is his charm or his gift of the gab, or the fact that he revels in having people listen to him. Some however find some of his jokes are ‘dry’. He only does it his way. Others, besides his close relation, have the opportunity to see this skill he has for holding up a stage and engaging a crowd and judge him for what he does best. He hasn’t necessarily yearned for this role; it has simply come at the right time for him. He simply lives and basks in the moment.

JIVE caught up with him after one of his numerous broadcasts at TV3. This fun-loving gentleman is with a wife and 3 children, all in the space of 4yrs. Unlike many news broadcasters, Gideon has moved from a science background into broadcasting.

Originally from British Jamestown, Gideon has moved through the regions of Ghana on various transfers his family suffered having a mother as an educational officer. This probably contributes to his flair for speaking with flawlessness, all dialects of Akan, Ga, and Ewe. This he employs on stage with the ladies on the Ghana Most Beautiful show. He is able to ‘buy oranges’ in many languages. “I speak them even better than my own language [Ga]. The art and finesse of speaking correct English was a basic requirement for any child living under the roof of his father.” He continues “I always want to know exactly how a word is pronounced. I will look through a dictionary and find out how to say it. It has helped me well since many people get offended when you don’t say their native word right.”

He has many adventurous stories about growing up. He grew up mainly in Cape Coast, but his fondest place would be in Koforidua. “We lived closest to the bush and there were times we would go looking ‘crabbing’ after it’d rained. Or we would fall palmnut trees for palmwine, see it through till mushrooms cropped up from within and later wait for the ‘akokono’ to form. They were delicious!” He has tried a variety of meats – python, adder, and crocodile. That was the very few he could remember. Perhaps to keep in touch with his young side, even as an adult, he had a farm (at some point), which he cultivated mainly cassava.

But cocoyam, plantain and other vegetables found their way in. Then he was given a gift of a pregnant goat, which he also kept till it multiplied. The story of how he got into television is a simple one.. “I overhead a conversation in a taxi between two women about TV3’s auditioning for newscasters and I signed up… I was a part of the short listed lucky 11, after the rigorous interview.” He’s done many voiceovers for TV3’s collection of telenovelas.

Gideon genuinely seems pleased with himself. “I just love the point at which I am in life right now. This is not the summit of it, but I would rather not think about what would have or could have been... My main aim is to stay clear from poverty; while I do the things I enjoy doing.” He expressed. “One person that I define as the best person on TV is Earl Ankrah. All I am, I got inspired by him. He was the one person who came to television and did it his way; I took that from him and see how far that has brought me. I admire him so much!” He went on. Aryeequaye, 38, wouldn’t mind knocking off a couple of bottles with his pals, even though he claims he does not have that many friends, it can be doubted. But by all means when he is not dazzling himself with the affairs of TV3, he would rather spend time with his family, watch a movie maybe, and relax.

Ideally, Gideon, would wish that everybody would have an unselfish attitude towards life, ‘if people will be happy when another man makes it in life, knowing that it gives them hope for a better life, maybe there will a world with a lot less animosity and acrimony’.

Behind the scenes, you could see him as a counselor. “I just love it when I am able to make someone’s life better by something I tell them. There are some issues I’d rather they not have told me, but even when they do, I stay as objective as possible. Some of the advice I give, I may not necessarily practice them, but it works. I know that for a fact.” This might be the chief in him speaking, a position that he hopes he might run into anytime between now and the next century. This chief however welcomes the idea of any willing individual who will ‘do me the honors of taking me to a strip club. I just want to see what happens there. I can’t go to clubs because of the passive smoking that I might be exposed to, but I just would like to know how it works there.”
