Highlife artiste Paapa Yankson, receives help from GHAMRO

Ghana Music Rights Organisation, GHAMRO has donated an undisclosed amount of money to highlife legend, Paapa Yankson who has been confined to bed due to an ailment.

The First Vice Chairman of the organisation who also doubles as the welfare committee chairman of GHAMRO, Ahmed Banda popularly called Bandex on Thursday, May 5 visited the “Okukuseku” singer at his Dansoman residence to make the donation.

Bandex before the donation expressed his disappointment in the musician for not informing the association about his sickness at the early stage. According to him, the welfare committee of the organisation was setup for such purposes so musicians should not waste time in calling on them when the need arises.

He added that even though information about the musician’s condition reached them Thursday morning, they saw the need to help him before things get worse.

“I never knew the situation was like this at all. You should have informed GHAMRO when it started because we are there for you. Our administration does not know old and new group, we are all working together to run the association”

Paapa Yankson, real name Benjamin Kofi Yankson, explaining his late call on the organisation revealed that he thought he could finance it all by himself. He further stated that he also did not want people to think he needed the money for his personal gains.

“I didn’t tell anybody because I thought people will think I want to lure you for money. Now that you have come to see my condition, you can tell others my condition because if I say it, they might not believe me.”

Talking about the condition, Paapa Yankson who could not say exactly what the condition was said the development started last week Friday. He revealed that he was healthy last week Thursday when he went to Multi TV for an interview to promote an upcoming concert he is billed to perform at. He continued that he thought he could make it to the concert in order to use the money to cater for his health but things became worse the day after his interview on the Multimedia owned TV station.

“Thursday I went for an interview at Multi TV. I started feeling pains the following day. I could not stand on my feet Saturday because it had become serious. I feel pains in my waist when I sit down”

His son who was with him at the time of visit received the money on his behalf and promised to take him to the hospital the following morning. The musician thanked GHAMRO for coming to his aid even though they did not receive information about his sickness early.

His son who talked to Zionfelix.com after the donation could not name the sickness worrying his father. He said he came to visit him only to see his father in that state.

Paapa Yankson is known for hit songs like “Show Your Love”, “Tena Me Kyen”, “Kokroko” and many others.
