"Gospel musicians can perform at Night Clubs if...”

Ingenious gospel musician; Nicholas Omane Acheampong has, in an interview with Flex newspaper stated that gospel musicians can perform at night clubs.

Responding to a question of whether gospel musicians are barred from doing things in the secular world including performing at night clubs, Omane Acheampong intimated that it would not be wrong if the gospel musician performs in a club with the intention of evangelism but if it is just for the entertainment aspect of it, it would not please the Lord.

According to him, “any gospel musician who is approached by an event organizer to perform in a club must ask one or two questions before accepting the deal. You have to know the purpose of which you are being called to perform on that platform."

"If they tell you it is for the purpose of you extending your evangelical messages to the people in there, then you have to accept and perform in the club. But if you were contracted to just make merry with them while they drink, smoke and dress anyhow with them, you have to reason up and reject the contract,” the Mahal Shalal singer told this reporter.

Nicholas Omane Acheampong proffered an advice to his fellow gospel musicians to be wary of which contracts they embrace, “until the event organizers come for you based on what you represent, don't accept it."

"If prostitutes come to their senses and call you to come and preach to them through your songs, you need to go but when they invite you to perform for them because they have the money to pay you so they make merry, just forget them and go your way,” he said.

Over the years, no gospel musician has won the ultimate award at the Ghana Music Awards and some have attributed this partly to the fact that if gospel musicians win, they would not be able to go for the after party at the night club which has been the normal treat to ultimate award winners in times past.

Ghana is still looking forward to a day when a gospel musician will win the Artiste of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards and would or would not go to a party at the night club.
