Golden Tulip PlayBack Show In November

The ninth edition of the Golden Tulip Playback Show comes off at the National Theatre in Accra on Saturday, November 1 at 4pm. The show, organised by the hotel for children below the age of 14, provides the teenagers the opportunity to imitate their favourite pop and highlife artistes all over the world.

After nine years of the event, the programme has caught on well with most children, both in the primary and junior secondary schools.

Participating schools this year include Services Basic School, Airport Police Basic School, Adenta Community Basic School, Kalvary International School, 37 Military Hospital Basic School and the Association International School.

Due to the large number of entries, auditioning and screening is held at the Golden Tulip to prepare the children for the grand finale. This involves grooming and training the children to overcome stage fright and build up their confidence.

Criteria for judging winners at the finals will include level of performance, look-alike, costume, choreography synchronisation and winning capabilities.

Launching the event, Ms. Agnes Bruce, in charge of Special Events at Golden Tulip, noted that every child is born with a kind of talent, potential and ability; however, our society places so much emphasis on those talents and potentials listed only in the classroom, leaving out the exceptional talents evident in the way they act, speak and read. She said it is against this background that the Golden Tulip organises the Children's Playback Show for the children to exhibit their God given talents.

This year's event will have prizes for good, better and best performers. Prizes will include medals and cash prizes for the first three winners.

There will also be certificates of participation and consolation prizes. Other prizes will be a trophy for the winning school, best costume, and most exciting team.

If what the children at their rehearsals are displaying is anything to go by, then a great show should be expected come November.

The event is co-sponsored by Ashfoam and Coca Cola.
