Renowned sound engineer David Kojo Kyei known in showbiz circles as Kaywa, has recommended that, the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) be given to a business oriented person to lead and not a musician.

Speaking to host DJ Nyaami on ‘We Dey Vybe’ on SVTV Africa, the celebrated sound engineer explained that, most of our musicians are good and learned people but are not business inclined making it difficult to run an organization like MUSIGA and for that reason, the union should be head by a business-oriented person and not a musician else the challenges the union is facing will not become to an end.

“For me, the people who want to stand for the MUSIGA president and all that, I won’t say somebody is competent or incompetent blah blah blah. All I can say is that we need people who understand it to manage it, not everybody can manage it. It’s management, not music. There are some people right now in Ghana who understands the music business and are also music lovers, those are the people we need to manage it. So if you want MUSIGA to run well, look for a business-oriented person to manage it else the circle of failure will continue” he said.

Asked if he has intentions of contesting for MUSIGA president in the near future, he replied “Do I have the expertise? No! I don’t have the power to become president, I don’t even understand it. All I’m saying is that I have an idea about it and all the musicians around have an idea, great ideas. But It’s not about having an idea, it’s about implementation, implementation is the key, that’s why we are suffering. Let’s get someone who can implement and knows the technical know-how” he added.

Kaywa however that, all the musicians who have expressed interest in the various positions in MUSIGA are great artistes but thinks the industry needs people who can implement and knows management to manage it.

The award-winning sound engineer is the CEO of Highlife Spiritual Music, a record label that has churned out amazing talents over the years.

Kaywa has produced a countless number of hit songs for many artists in and out of Ghana and has changed the music sound in Africa.

Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), has set June 28, 2019 as the date for its national elections. This year, members who are eligible to vote can do some at their regional centres.

The national elections will elect a new president and national executives for the union after the term of the current executives under the leadership of Bice Osei Kuffour (Obour), which ends in May 2019.
