Girl wins national reading competition

Esreso (Ash), Dec 20, GNA - Miss Christiana Frimpong, an 11-year-old class six pupil of the Esreso Primary School in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District of Ashanti, won a national reading competition, organised by the Canadian Organisation For the Development of Education (CODE).

The chiefs and people of Esreso organised a durbar to honour Miss Frimpong, who received her prize of a set of books and 150,000 cedis. Mrs Dora Doris Amaniampong, the District Director of Education, presented the prize to Miss Frimpong and commended her for the achievement that had raised the image her parents, teachers school and the district.

The District Director of Education urged students to make good use of libraries to improve upon their reading skills and learning. She said apart from the Miss Frimpong's achievement, last year, the Catholic JSS at Trabuom won the African Youth Alliance competition and a pupil of the same school won a national quiz competition. She commended teachers in the district for their hard work and urged them to sustain the spirit and requested parents to assist schools with logistics to enhance teaching and learning.

Mr Osman Adjei, Ashanti Regional Guidance and Counselling Co-ordinator, in an address read on his behalf, commended CODE for supporting.

He said each child in the district had received a set of seven supplementary books.
