Gifty Osei’s management apologizes to GHAMRO over false royalties claim

The management of Gospel artiste, Gifty Osei has apologized to Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), for the musician’s claim that she has never received royalties from them.

Empress Gifty Osei disclosed to host of K-Entertainment, Kojo Preko Dankwa on Kasapa 102.5 FM that she had never received any royalties from GHAMRO before.

“I have never received royalties from GHAMRO but I am a member of the organization. I’ve registered all my songs.” Gifty Osei said.

In an interview with Chairperson of GHAMRO, Rex Owusu Marfo, otherwise known in showbiz as Rex Omar, he told Presspeep.com that Gifty’s claim is totally false.

“Gifty Osei is a liar and I’ve asked her manager to let her come publicly to apologize to GHAMRO else we’ll publish all the monies they’ve received from Ghamro since 2015 till date including even the very last distribution we did,” he said.

The online portal’s update indicates that head of Gifty Osei’s management team, Mr. Stephen Kenneth Nakujah, has apologized for the false claim by his artiste.

According to him, royalties of Gifty Osei comes directly into the coffers of the management and that Gifty Osei was once told in a meeting but it escaped the Gospel diva when she was asked that question.

He confirmed that after the interview they (GHAMRO) called Gifty to come public and correct the false impression. Mr. Stephen Kenneth Nakujah used the opportunity to render an unqualified apology to GHAMRO and the entire public for the misinformation.

The Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) was established under section 49 of the Copyright Law, Act 690 of 2005 and regulated under L.I. 1962 of 2010 to collect and distribute royalties accruing to authors and owners of copyright and neighbouring rights.

Like all other copyright societies, GHAMRO is a non-profit corporate body (limited by guarantee) and therefore all fees collected are distributed among the right owners whose works have been used, in this instance composers, authors and producers, publishers in proportion to the use made of their works.

GHAMRO is duly authorized by written assignments and affiliated to composers’ societies all over the world through the execution of reciprocal representation agreements with Societies outside Ghana whose works Ghana protect under treaty and other international treaties.
