Ghanaians urged to promote traditional songs

Kumasi, Nov. 11, GNA - Mr Julien Dal Bosco, Director of the Centre of Alliance Francaise has stressed the need for the nation to embark on the promotion of traditional songs to boost tourism. This, he said, was also crucial to shape the life of the youth because most cultural and traditional songs contained educative lyrics that could be beneficial to them.

Mr Bosco was speaking during a musical concert by Hewale Sounds, an Accra based cultural troupe at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Kumasi on Monday.

The event was organised by the Kumasi Centre of Alliance Francaise in collaboration with the French Embassy.

Mr Bosco said his outfit had lined up a number of cultural and educative activities ahead of the Christmas celebration to foster unity and harmony among Ghanaians and their neighbouring French counterparts. The Hewale Sounds, led by Dela Botri, played the Atentenben (local flutes), xylophone and other cultural musical instruments to the excitement of the audience.

They also sang a number of highlife songs interspersed with traditional and folkloric songs to the admiration of the audience some of whom could not help but to dance to the thrilling tunes. 12 Nov. 08
