The Chairman of Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), Rex Owusu Marfo, otherwise known as Rex Omar has said Ghanaians do not have respect for intellectual property.

Justifying his claim, Rex Omar said almost all the Radio Stations in Ghana are using music freely without paying a dime to artiste.

Speaking with Kojo Preko Dankwa on K-Entertainment on Kasapa102.5FM, the highlife great said because of such disdain for most Ghanaian artistes, most citizens do not have respect for intellectual properties.

“Most people in the country think an artiste in Ghana does not have a voice and this has led to the disrespect of their creative intuition.

“Radio Stations in Ghana must show the same attitude paying for other bills and the same for paying to GHAMRO. Any civilized country pays for people’s intellectual property, so I don’t know why we are not doing the same.”

Rex added that, GHAMRO will in 2018 use a logging system to claim its royalties from the various Radio Stations who use music freely.

He however added that, GHAMRO Welfare Policy will be launched next year January 2018 to support the welfare of artistes.
