Ghanaian musicians lack support - Sena Dagadu

A Hungary-based Ghanaian singer, Sena Dagadu, has noted that structures in Ghana do not support musicians in their profession.

According to her, unlike countries like Hungary where there are strong systems in place to support the artistes, Ghanaian artistes in Ghana are struggling to go about their work due to poor systems in place.

Speaking on the Class Drive on Class 91.3FM hosted by Prince Benjamin, she said : “Right now as we speak I have 35 Hungarian people with me to do a series of events with the Hungarian Cultural week in Ghana throughout this week. My quiet little mind is always working to try to find the link to bring things together in Ghana.”

She added : “In Hungary, there is a sense that the music industry is in some way a lot more developed".

“We talk about support systems for our artistes which is one of the most important things, example is Royalty Collection Society - the systems where royalties are collected via radio, TV etc., that go back to help the artiste to be able to re-invest in their music.

“That is something I find in Ghana that it is very lacking structurally. A lot of my musician friends don’t even know they have royalties.

“In Hungary you have quite a bit of support system. If you do get radio play or a TV play, you do have your royalties accounted for and you do get that money.

“You can also apply for cultural grants from the governments to aide in whether you are making an album or building a tour or something like that. So you do have support. It makes it easier to pay for studio works.”

She has relaesed a new song dubbed 'Yo Chale' in which she featured Sarkodie.
