Ghanaian celebrities who left secular music to follow God

Lord Kenya, Azigiza jnr and Yaw Siki have all become pastors Lord Kenya, Azigiza jnr and Yaw Siki have all become pastors

When God called, they listened. They walked away from doing all kinds of “worldly” music to focus on their faith in God.

As their faith grew stronger, so did their desire to change their public lifestyle, reputations and the way they carried themselves personally.

These secular Ghanaian musicians decided, they had just had enough at some point and needed to make a drastic, life-altering change.

Notwithstanding, celebrities do all kinds of “crazy crap” in their careers, so leaving the industry entirely because they finally found God and have become a born again Christian of some sort, is likely among the strangest things to happen in the Ghanaian entertainment industry.

Here are five musicians who turned their life around for Jesus and were transformed in the process.

LORD KENYA

Born, Abraham Philip Akpor Kodjo, his musical career was cut short when he received a divine calling. He’s now a pastor at Jesus Power Church.

Lord Kenya was the winner of the Hiplife Album of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards 2001, winner of the Best Ghanaian (Rap Music) Award at the Anansekrom Festival in Canada 2000, and earned a string of nominations elsewhere.

The “rapper turned evangelist” who has 7 albums to his credit says he has washed his hands off those albums even though it's still selling worldwide.

He also officially recused right to his seven albums and is not expecting to be paid royalties from GHAMRO.

The ‘Sika Baa’ hitmaker, became a pastor in the year 2010.

AZIGIZA JNR

He abandoned his DJ profession in 1998 and became a born-again Christian.

Victor Kpakpo Jnr, aka, Azigiza Jnr’s Rap style earned him both international and local recognition. Even though he has currently given his life to Christ and is focusing on evangelism he says he is not going to give up the name Azigiza Jnr.

Azigiza jnr was a successful singer with hit songs like Me Do Wo Abena, Kponkpa and Wo Y3 Bia which featured Tic Tac.

YAW SIKI

The "wope dodo" hitmaker after surviving a gory accident in 2013 became a born again preacher

Yaw, as he prefers to be called now, delivers sermons in “trotros” and between lanes in communities.

Papa Shee

Formerly identified as a Ghanaian hiplife musician, Papa Shee now prefers to be referred to as an evangelist.

Prior to his encounter with God, he had graced many Ghanaian entertainment events in the USA.

The born-again musician was also known for his controversial lyrics which often led to him receiving criticism from his Ghanaian fan base.

He has songs like Atadwe,’ ‘Koyon So’, many others to his credit

OJ BLACK

Former Lynx Entertainment signee, Andy Nii Akrashie, popularly known as OJ Blaq has totally shunned secular music for God’s work following what he described as an encounter with God when he was down with kidney failure years ago.

He recently stated in an interview that God miraculously healed him and that he has now become stronger than before

After producing songs like ‘Chalewote‘, ‘Target’, ‘Mewo Mmaa‘, among others, the Biggy Boy Lover has now embarked on a crusade to win souls for God.
