The Awards, which was held at the Accra International Conference Center was to reward some organizations and individuals that have contributed immensely to the Tourism Industry in the country.

It would be recalled that www.ghanaweb.com during the 2017 Kwahu Easter Celebration in the Eastern Region gave a wide range of reportage through its online and video portals, exposing Ghanaians to some new activities introduced by the Tourism Ministry including the Paragliding Festival.

Speaking at the Awards ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Akwasi Agyeman said it was important for the country to recognize the role of tourism in Ghana’s development and acknowledge individual contributions that helps to boost the sector.

According to him, responsible tourism is crucial for the industry, as it will help attract more tourists; that’s both domestic and foreign.

“Everyone who has a part to play in the tourism industry has to take actions that will make tourism more sustainable. It is therefore required of operators in the industry, government and the locals to provide better places and services for people who visit.

It’s a responsibility we each have to our country, knowing our GDP stands to gain at the long run”.

Overall, about twenty-eight tourism enterprises and individuals were awarded, ranging from hotels to travel services to the media.

The 13th edition of the National Tourism Awards which was graced by several dignitaries and personalities also witnessed a performance from the country’s Tourism Ambassador Okyeame Kwame.

It was held under the theme “Promoting Responsible Tourism.”
