Ghana to be hub of Pan African activities in 2007

Accra, Nov.3, GNA- The programme of activities planned for Ghana's 50th Anniversary celebration, which falls on March 6, 2007, would transform the country into a hub of tourist attraction, fun and Pan African activities.

Although the programme for the Anniversary is still on the drawing board, hotels and other hospitality service providers are warming up for the high profile visitors mainly African-Americans and other Africans in the Diaspora, who have expressed interest to be part of the historic event.

Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations made this known in Accra, on Thursday, when a three-member delegation of the International Association of Black Yoga Teachers called on him.

"Next year is a bonus year for Ghana because there would always be something special,=94 he said.

The Minister said among the programme lined up include the Joseph Project that hoped to facilitate the return and integration of Blacks in the Diaspora, a healing concept, and a comprehensive entertainment package.

International renowned artistes like Ziggy Marley, Steve Wonder, and Isaac Hayes, among others, would descend on Ghana. Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey said between January and March and July to October would be the peak period for tourists and is expected to put a lot of strain on airlines, hotels and other accommodation facilities in the country.

Dr. Samuel Sasu, Executive Director of the Association said as part of the Golden Jubilee celebration, the yearly summit of the Black Yogis has been scheduled to take place in Accra in August, which is meant to promote Black Unity.

Dr Sasu said a Yoga clinic would take place on November 25, in Accra this year.

Mr Issah Musah Adams, Public Relations Officer of the Association told the Ghana News Agency that, Yoga is an ancient art and science that has been developed over the years.

"Medical doctors acknowledge that the root of all diseases is stress and Yoga has been proven to get rid of stress; mentally, physically and emotionally.

"Therefore the practice of Yoga helps to lower high blood pressure, strengthens the heart, controls asthma, reduces liver and kidney problems, boosts the immune system and used as supplementary therapy for HIV/AIDS.
