Ghana music criticized for ‘lacking originality’

Upcoming Ghanaian highlife/hiplife singer Ramiforson has criticized contemporary Ghanaian music for the "lack of originality."

He observed highlife is a typical prestigious Ghanaian music genre which fuses “melodic and main rhythmic structures of traditional Akan music,” which ought to be preserved.

But he is disappointed that Ghanaian musicians now focus more on what they call “making the trends” rather than holding the indigenous highlife music in high esteem.

Commenting on the potential of the Ghana music industry, the singer acknowledges that the industry is very broad and competitive and that there is a lot of young talent underground which needs more attention and media support to make it to the limelight.

Set to release his debut single ‘Ohemaa’, Ramiforson is optimistic that he will take the world by storm, delivering the kind of music audience have been yearning to hear.

While he believes it is important for an upcoming artiste to stand out with their own uniqueness, he says he draws inspiration from Obrafour, Kofi Kinaata, Oheneba Kisi, Kwabena Kwabena, and some few others, who motivate him to reach for gold.
