Highlife artiste, Kaakyire Kwame Appiah has said the Ghana Music Industry is currently breeding grounds for poverty hence the reason why most artistes have resorted to releasing singles.

According to him, prior to 2005, artistes like himself produced several albums which were sold to provide them with some revenue but currently, the emergence of social media has made life very challenging for musicians.

“When I go to Germany to record a song over five hundred million and I come back to promote it with two hundred million but people use their phones to download the songs instead of buying my CD, I will go hungry because I will not be able to recoup the money I invested into the music,” he told Bolgatanga-based A1 Radio’s Kofi Asante.

Kaakyire indicated that he has been out of the music scene because “I am shy to come out with a single because everybody knows Kakyire Kwame Appiah for producing good albums so if I come out with a single like other people are doing, what questions will people ask? So I will rather stay away from music that produces singles”.

He indicated that he has ventured into movies and is currently about to premiere a new controversial movie.
