Ghana Literary Prize is on the 28th of June

The Ghana Literary Prize an exciting community event to advance literacy in Ghana will now hold on the 28th day June 2014 at the British council auditorium Accra, Ghana,

The Literary Prize is aimed at promoting creative writing and the reading culture of our society thereby advancing literacy in the Nation.

According to the Deputy Communication chief of the foundation, Selasie Davies Lore, a former United Nations volunteer, revealed that their concern over the decline in the reading culture of our society motivated her and her team to take up this project.

“The decline in the reading culture of our society, which seems so low in the current decade is becoming alarming and we saw the need to raise this noble foundation and solicit for assistance of the entire Ghanaians in pursuing this goal of introducing an exciting and rewarding activity to celebrate the best books and their authors in the three major genre of literatures.

This will go a long way in endearing average members of the society into reading, creative writing, and also assist our publishing industry which falls under our intellectual hub.

The Prize will curb mental laziness and encourage young emerging talents in the nation, thereby pushing the spirit of creative entrepreneurship in the young in our society. It will also push Ghanaian Writers, Readers, Publishers, Literary societies, Thinkers, and Marketers of literature into a new wave of improvements and growth.

The Prize Awarding event hoping to take place late this year as soon as sponsorship for the prestigious prize is claimed from the indigenous and multi-national companies or relevant institutions who will support this cause, will serve as a means of announcing to the world the best and latest of literary works and talents coming out of Ghana, and will make the shortlisted works that will be selected by literary veterans in the nation, attractive to the general public and beyond the shores of Ghana, thereby supporting our local writers immensely and making creative writing an economically viable profession. With this we can re-capture the attention of the youth to reading and creative writing, and harness the socio-economic boost literacy adds to any given society.”

At the Launch of the Prize, six renowned statesmen will be inducted into the board of trustees of the Foundation, to play an advisory and supervisory role to the team championing this course, Louisa Buah the communication chief of the foundation said that the statesmen will be selected for their respective contributions in the creative entrepreneurship industry, “Literature is the mirror of the society so we are selecting major role players in diverse facets of our society, to chair the board will be veteran Ghanaian author Ama Ata Aidoo and the rest of the team yet to be confirmed will comprise a technocrat, an educationist, an entrepreneur, and an agronomist ,a position in the board is already reserved for the minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative arts, Hon. Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare who chairs the affairs of creative arts in the current dispensation.”

The launch is just a step towards achieving this noble feat and the foundation hopes that it will help them attract sponsors to the prize and its Award night scheduled to hold sometime in December this year, the rules and regulations of the competition such as opening of entry and closing dates for submission of literary works will also be announced at the event.
