Ghana Homecoming Queen

‘THE GHANA HOMECOMING QUEEN BEAUTY PAGEANT’

Theme: ‘Raising Funds to Support Orphans and Other Vulnerable Children’

As part of Ghana’s Golden Jubilee Celebration, a fund raising beauty pageant dubbed Ghana Homecoming Queen is being organized on Saturday 1 September, 2007 at the National Theatre, Accra. This is under the auspices of Ministry for Women and Children’s Affairs and Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture and endorsed by Ghana@50 to raise funds to support the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs’ orphan and other vulnerable children’s fund.

As the saying goes “Charity Begins At Home” we are involving Ghanaians all over the world to lend a helping hand to support this cause. We believe using a beauty pageant that involves Ghanaian young women who lives overseas will be an effective informative tool.

Each contestant who qualifies at their country of residence to attend the finals in Ghana will be assigned an orphan child who will mentor them for their two week stay in Ghana prior to the main event. All the contestants whether a winner or not will return to their home country and will have a year to raise funds for the orphanage their orphan mentor lives in.

The fund raising continues with Ghanaians all the world and in Ghana being asked to make a monthly contribution of £1.00 in the UK, $1.00 in the USA, €1.00 in Europe, Y1.00 in Japan, Shilling 1.00 in Uganda, R1.00 in South Africa, N1.00 in Nigeria and ¢1.00 in Ghana.

16 contestants for the pageant will be selected from 8 regions of the globe from amongst Ghanaian communities across the world. The selected regions and cities are:

1. The Americas - U.S.A (Atlanta)

2. United Kingdom - London

3. Europe - Netherlands (Amsterdam) - Germany

4. East Africa - Uganda (Kampala)

5. South Africa - Johannesburg

6. West Africa - Nigeria (Lagos)

7. Ghana - Accra & Kumasi

The selected contestants will travel to Ghana and engage in various challenging events in over the 2 week period. Ghanaians everywhere will see Ghanaian beauties from across the world.

The auditions as well as other events will be filmed & edited for broadcast. This will comprise a two month campaign of televised auditions aired in Ghana culminating in the broadcast of the main event which will be televised after due editing. Two special programmes will be aired in Europe and Africa – the first of which will be the auditions and then the main event thereafter.
