Get the matte look

Had enough of glossy, gleaming make-up? There is an alternative.

If you're tired of the same old things in your cosmetics bag, you could consider giving matte make-up a try. It's a trend that has been popular on the catwalks for a little while now, and has led to more products entering the market.

It's worth noting that the matte look could be tricky for people with dry skin to pull off in terms of foundation, as you need more moisture in your products, but for people with oily skin it's perfect.

Maybelline's Matte Maker Mattifying Powder couldn't make it any clearer that it will do everything in its power to stop your face from looking shiny. It contains millions of particles to help keep any sheen away and provides an even coverage in four different shades.

Matte lipstick is another fantastic way to get more texture into your typical look, but it's important to exfoliate first. That's because with a lustreless version, there's no gleam or sparkle to conceal the condition of your mouth, so if it's flaky, you'll see. MAC has a wide range of colours; we particularly love All Fired Up, a bold pink shade that will really show how the lack of a gloss finish is no bad thing for your pout.

For your eyes, a non-shiny shadow can create intense shading and depth. Nars' Matte Eyeshadow is highly pigmented and longwearing and gives a smooth finish.

If you're worried this look will make your skin look dried out, apply the trend to your fingertips.

Topshop's Matte Nails is fast-drying and comes in an array of shades. As well as wearing it on its own, you can mix things up by adding a gloss finish to the tips and leaving the rest of the nail muted.
