German Language Festival ends in Accra

The 10th National German Cultural Festival ended last week at the Goethe-Institut in Accra with a mesmerising performance from Blaq Originata.

Alongside six free style dancers, Blaq Originator thrilled over 600 students and their teachers with a variety of music genres, including highlife, rock, funk and rap as his dancers criss-crossed the stage with synchronised and choreographed movements that attracted cheers from the students.

Clad in white costumes, Blaq Originata captured and sustained the attention of the audience with his own compositions alongside a magnetic stage work that drew students to the stage who equally showcased their dancing skills.

A number of schools, colleges and universities from the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Volta and Central Regions took part in the festival, which involved a keenly contested competition through diverse performances in music, dance, drama, poetry and spoken word in German. It was won by the Goethe-Institut in Accra.

These include University of Cape Coast, Ghana Institute of Languages (Kumasi), University of Education, Winneba, School of Translators, Accra Academy SHS, Goethe-Institut, Cradle Grace Montessori School (Accra), Wesley Girls’ SHS (Cape Coast), Opoku Ware SHS (Kumasi), Vakpo Adomi JSS (Vakpo), Danadi Complex School (Kaosa) and Ningo SHS (Ningo).

Other games that formed part of the festival include ‘ampe’, skipping rope, face painting, drawing lessons, quiz, spelling contests, photography, treasure hunt, guided tours and others which engaged the attention of the students throughout the day.

Goethe-Institut in Accra, Ghana Association of Teachers of German and the German Academic Exchange Service organised the festival which was opened by the German Ambassador to Ghana, H.E Christoph Retzlaff.
