GMB’s Baaba launches mental health foundation, ‘PsycHealth’

The Central Regional representative of the 2017 Ghana’s Most Beautiful pageant, Baaba has launched her foundation, ‘PsycHealth’ to help create awareness and deal with issues bordering on mental health in the country.

Helena Baaba Botchway who emerged as the First Runner-up of TV3’s Ghana’s Most Beautiful pageant last year, expressed her passion and dedication towards mental health throughout her stay in the competition.

Speaking at the launch of her PsycHealth-Ghana foundation in Accra, Baaba stated that her decision to establish a foundation is borne out of her passion and commitment towards educating and creating awareness about mental health.

She added that she is committed towards seeing her cause succeed as she brings hope to people living with mental health.

“I want to see a better mental health sector, and give a voice to the voiceless. Today, we set the ball rolling towards the realization of our dreams,” Baaba said.

Chairman of the occasion and Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana, Felix Nyanteh commended Baaba for the initiative and pledged the support of the Council towards the realization of the foundation’s goals.

Communications Manager at Media General, Abena Adu Larbi, stated that the group is committed to supporting Baaba through her cause.

“Media General is rallying support around you, and we assure you of our support throughout this journey.”

Member of Parliament for the Effutu constituency, Alexander Afenyo-Markin who was also present at the event promised to support the foundation to make it thrive.

“I can assure you that I will be part of the program and make your success a reality,” Afenyo-Markin told baaba

He further stressed that policy makers ought to find space and make budget available for issues of mental health.

Afenyo-Markin pledges to raise the issue on mental health on the floor of parliament to get the fast track measures towards improving mental health in Ghana.

“I think this awareness is critical to all of us, and I will prepare a statement to be presented on the floor of parliament on mental health awareness.”
He stated that awareness is critical towards attaining success dealing with issues of mental health in the country.
