Founder and Leader of the Heavens Gate Ministries, Rev Nicholas Osei popularly known as Kumchacha has called off GHAMRO’s bluff stating categorical that they need deliverance.
According to Kumchacha, The Ghana Music Right Organization (GHAMRO) has no right to levy churches in Ghana to pay royalties for the music they use.
“GHAMRO needs deliverance, how can they tell the musicians in my church to pay money for the sings they sing”
“I will not pay any money for any group “, Kumchacha fumed In a telephone conversation on Ahotor FM’s Mid morning show, Ahotor Mmre with Yaw Nkrumah,
Kumchacha further stated that music can not be taken from the worship service of any church and if musicians pay for the songs they sing during church service, it will restrict and take a lot of value from it.
GHAMRO’S President, Rex Omar in a telephone interview on the show also indicated that music played at wedding ceremonies, funerals etc in churches are intellectual properties by musicians and they must earn from their works.
Rex Omar stated that they will find modalities in taking the royalties from the churches.
“If all music users pay for the songs they use, the Ghanaian musician will be better off than before”, he concluded.
