'GH¢20 million film fund should benefit deserving people' - LilWin

Ghanaian movie star LilWin has weighed in on the GH¢20 million budget allocated to the Ghana movie industry, stating that the money will go a long way in helping filmmakers produce quality content if it is shared among the right people.

In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb’s Patience Adu, the actor who believes the money will be disbursed, said, “It has taken too long. I don’t know if they are sharing it or not, but it is really going to help if they give it to the right people.

“But if they don’t share it well and give it to people who have not even shot a movie in about 10 years, they will waste it, so they should be vigilant and give it to people who truly deserve it.”

LilWin further stated that, “I believe when they are sharing, I will get about 80% because I am really putting in the work. My recent movie, ‘A Journey to Africa,’ is about Ghana, and that is what we need to put Ghana on international platforms,” he added.

Recently, President John Dramani Mahama confirmed a GH¢20 million financial injection into the Ghana film industry, including Kumawood and Ghallywood, as part of a broader effort to strengthen the sector and support economic diversification.

The announcement was first made in 2025 by the Minister of Finance Dr, Cassiel Ato Forson, during the budget reading before parliament
