French Club inaugurated

Accra, Oct. 20, GNA - A French club of the University Ghana, Legon was inaugurated at Akuse in the Eastern Region at the weekend to welcome freshmen and establish relationship between them and the continuing students.

In a statement, the French Embassy said that the inauguration called for the mobilization of more than 130 members out of a number of 400 students.

It was made up of several work groups like, "Atelier Journal," which will be responsible for impacting the skill for article writing, "Atelier Theatre" for impacting the skill of acting a play and "Atelier Video" for showing French films.

The statement added that the activities were aimed at sharpening the students French speaking skills.

The French Department of the University has been provided with a Multi-media Room, which is equipped with four computers, a television set, radio recorders and newspapers and connected to the internet. The equipment is at the disposal of the students to help them access all kinds of information and help them improve upon their French Language.

It said the club each year goes on a linguistic trip in the sub-region. For instance the club last year, paid a visit to the National University of Benin, Cotonou, The statement said the club would be visiting the University of Ouagadougou in Burkina-Faso.

Mlle Sophie Delena, the representative of the French Embassy and lecturer at the University of Ghana Legon and patroness of the club said the trip to Akuse, which was successful,l marked the rejuvenation of the club. Oct 20 '03
