Farmer sentenced to death for murder

Sunyani, July 18, GNA- Kwabena Dagarti, a 30-year-old farmer was on Thursday sentenced to death by the Sunyani High Court after a seven-member jury has found him guilty for the murder of Anthony Bavene, a farmer at Asanteso, near Techiman in Brong Ahafo. Mr Cab-Bayuo, Brong Ahafo Regional State Attorney, giving the facts of the case said on July 22, last year, the deceased went to his farm to mould yam beds for cropping.

While working the accused, who shared a common boundary with the deceased emerged from behind and without any provocation hit him with a hoe. The deceased fell and died instantly but the accused bolted, Mr Cab-Bayou said. He said people at the village suspecting the accused of having committed an offence, arrested him at Aboase village, near Techiman and handed him to the police.
