Fake Money-Doubling Spiritualist Nabbed

TWO suspected tricksters, Kwabena Yeboah, 28, and Osei Kojo, 25,who succeeded in robbing a young lady of all the money she had in the world, have been grabbed by the Kaneshie Police. Narrating her ordeal to The Weekend Heritage at the Kaneshie Police station, the victim, Patience Donkor 31, said on that fateful day at about 9pm she was on her way to church at Abeka-Lapaz when Osei approached her to direct him to the house of one Mr Owusu in the same vicinity.

According to Patience, Osei told her he was a stranger from Tarkwa and that the said Mr Owusu was his brother-in-law whose wife was in labour at the Korle-Bu teaching hospital.

She said that the second suspect Osei Kojo later joined them and assured them that he knew Mr Owusu’s house and therefore could be of help to them. The victim told The Weekend Heritage that, Kwabena Yeboah, informed her that he did not trust Osei Kojo so she Patience should accompany them to the place.

However, after Osei had shown Kwabena Yeboah the said Mr. Owusu’s house he came back and thanked them and said he was a spiritualist and would like to help them by doubling any amount they have on them.

Patience said she immediately gave out the ?150,000 on her but went home afterwards to collect ?600,000 from her uncle on the pretext of going to buy some materials for her tie and dye business that very night. Additionally she ransacked her room and collected every pesewa there.

Back at Mr Owusu’s house she handed over the money to the “Spiritualist” after which Yeboah requested that they have sex since the spiritual performance would need some semen to complete it.

But the victim balked at the idea since she claimed to be a staunch Christian and a member of the Abeka Branch of the Church of Pentecost.

Patience said after she ruled out sexual intercourse Kwabena Yeboah asked her to buy a candle for the consummation of the rites. She told The Weekend Heritage that by the time she returned with the candles the suspects had bolted with her money.

The Police commander of the Kaneshie Police station, Chief Inspector Azu, confirmed the story, noting that it took the vigilance of Police officers at a checkpoint at Melcom, north Kaneshie Branch to arrest the suspects.

He said it was about 11:45pm when the taxi in which the suspects were travelling pulled up.

Chief Inspector Azu said when a search was conducted a lady’s bag was found on the lap of Kwabena Yeboah. When he was asked who the bag belonged to, the suspect said it belonged to his wife who had travelled to her home town, where he was also headed.

The commander said when the bag was searched a lady’s photograph, a telephone number and money were found.

Suspicious of their behaviour, the police arrested the suspects. The next morning Patience was contacted through her telephone number, and she identified the suspects as the two who had duped her the previous night.

The duo is to be charged to court soon.
