"Electoral ladies" thrills audience with Carols

Accra, Dec.18 GNA- "Electoral Ladies" a Ladies Club of the Electoral Commission on Thursday entertained audience and staff of the Commission to a stream of Christmas tunes at their annual "Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols", in Accra.

The group, which was supported by the Bi-Tonic singers, non-denominational choir group from Mataheko, in Accra excited the gathering with their melodious tunes.

The festival, an annual feature on the commission's calendar, is organized to bring members and staff together to share in the joy and activities of the Yuletide.

The club, formed 13 years ago, aims at improving the living standards of members by socializing with the public. Some of the carols which they sang " O come, O come Emmanuel", "O Jesu most kind", "To us a son of hope is born" and "While shepherds watched their flock by night"

One interesting feature about this year's Carols festival was the invitation of representatives of the various political parties who read the various lessons.

Speaking at the function, Ms. Joyce Rosalind Aryee, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines and the Guest of Honour, praised the groups for their brilliant performances and asked them to sustain it.

She called on Christians in positions of authority not lord over their subordinates but rather serve them.

Ms Aryee reminded Christians to focus on the real objectives Christmas and not to reduce the celebration to only feasting. She urged Ghanaians to make this year's Christmas celebrations a different one by focusing on the human being adding "no matter how much someone has, he could offer assistance to someone else".
