The 2016 1st Runner Up of TV3’s Ghana’s Most Beautiful Beauty Pageant, Iddrisu Muhiba known on stage as Hiba has underscored the need for the country to speed up processes in educating the citizenry on repercussions of mob injustice.

She disclosed that the practice which has led to the loss of several lives, must not be allowed to continue and therefore urged the security services and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to help in this regard.

"It is stated in the constitution chapter 5 article 19 clause 1 that every citizen has the right to a fair hearing’ Let us also remember that a suspect is not a criminal until tried and proven guilty by the court of law, mob justice is against the fundamental human rights of people. Let’s not forget the pain and harm we cause the families and friends of people we lynch who may not be criminals”, she revealed.

Her calls come weeks after the late Major Maxwell Adam Mahama was mistaken for a robber and lynched at Denkyira-Boase in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region.

She observed as bad as a situation may be, government as well as the various security agencies must rise to the occasion and embark on sensitization to avert what could be a recurrence.

At an interaction with various youth groups during her recent visits to communities up north, she urged them to be law abiding warning that lynching remains a crime.

“I urge the youth to be law abiding and hand over suspected criminals to the police. I also entreat the authorities to come to the aid of people when they need their help to always let justice prevail so the people can be confident in them”, she added.
