Ebony to take over Independence Square on March 17

The family of the late Ebony Reigns has announced the Independence Square in Accra as the venue for the final funeral rites of the Ghanaian dancehall act who died in a road accident in February.

Born Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng, Ebony died on the spot on the Sunyani-Kumasi highway while returning to Accra after visiting her mother in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The Jeep SUV, in which she was travelling, crashed into a VIP bus near at a section of the highway where road construction was ongoing. Two others who were in the car – a friend and a soldier said to be her bodyguard –also died. Her driver however survived.

At the one week observance of the death of the artiste, the family announced March 17 as the burial day but said they were yet to decide on the venue for the funeral that is set to take over Accra.

But speaking on TV3’s Midday Live Wednesday, the late artiste’s father Nana Opoku Kwarteng, said the family has settled on the Independence Square as the venue for the funerals where thousands of people are expected to pay their last respect.

Mr. Kwarteng was reacting to a video of the body of late songstress and her late friend Franky Kuri at the morgue that has been circulating on social media with many people expressing outrage video.

In the said video someone said to be the mortuary man was seen touching the naked body of the late musician Mr. Kwarteng said has been in touch with his lawyer and mulling over a court action against the said mortuary man and the hospital where the incident took place.

“I have not seen the video myself, but I have heard about it, and whoever is involved in spreading my girl’s video will be taken to court,” Mr. Kwarteng told TV3.
