Driver granted 20 million cedis bail

Tema, March 24, GNA - A Circuit Court "B" at Tema granted 20 million cedis bail with surety to be justified to a driver who allegedly stole iron rods valued at 1.3 million cedis.

Moses Osei alias Nana Yaw pleaded not guilty to a stealing charge. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Alice Gyamfi told the court presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that in 2002, Justina Anotwe deposited a quantity of iron rods at her neighbour's house where Osei was previously staying. She said last month, Anotwe detected that 12 iron rods value at 1.3 million cedis were stolen.

Chief Insp Gyamfi said the watchman in the neighbour' house informed the complainant that the accused came for the rods and conveyed them away in a vehicle.

She said when the watchman asked Osei where he was sending the iron rods, he (accused) said he was going to use them for the complainant's uncle work.

Chief Insp Gyamfi said a report was made to the police and Osei was arrested, and in his caution statement, Accused stated that he stole only four rods and not 21 rods as alleged by the complainant.
